TELUS announced that it is planning to spend $5 million to boost its “Clinics on Wheels” program across Canada. Company President & CEO, Darren Entwistle, announced the new funding commitment at a media conference in downtown Vancouver, yesterday.
Currently, the mobile clinics are operated by healthcare partners in Vancouver, Victoria, Calgary, and Montreal. The carrier is planning to expand the program into an additional 10 communities by 2019. TELUS estimates that it will serve a total of 20,000 patients at its peak.
The program is focusing on dealing with homelessness, addiction, and mental health issues, which prevent these folks from seeking traditional medical care. All these clinics are equipped with TELUS’ latest electronic medical record technology to assist all partners in their efforts to help more patients.
“At TELUS, a cornerstone of our passionate social purpose is our heartfelt commitment to enabling better health outcomes for our fellow Canadians, which is why we have expanded our TELUS Health for Good program nationally,” said Entwistle in a statement.
