Apple announced new iPad Pro models today at its October event in New York City. Two new models are available with 11-inch and 12.9-inch display sizes, available in Space Grey or Silver.
iPad Pro gets a new design with thinner bezels and gone is the Home button, replaced by iPhone X gestures. The new Liquid Retina display is the same technology from the iPhone XR, while the tablet is powered by a new 8-core A12X Bionic chip and next-generation Neural Engine.
Face ID debuts on iPad for the first time–and works in both portrait and landscape orientations. Animoji and Memoji are now possible on iPad Pro as well.
Gone is the legacy Lightning connector, instead debuting USB-C for the first time on an iOS device (which can charge your iPhone). The iPad Pro gets Gigabit-class LTE, while configurations are offered in up to 1TB of storage.
“The new iPad Pro is a huge step forward for powerful, creative, mobile computing; it has an all-new thinner design, speeds through projects with the super-fast A12X Bionic chip and unlocks with a glance using Face ID in any orientation — while you’re sitting or standing, with iPad Pro on your desk or lap, with the new Smart Keyboard Folio and new Apple Pencil,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.
A new second-generation Apple Pencil now magnetically attaches to your iPad Pro to pair and charges, while the stylus gets a touch sensor to add new functionality to apps. This new Apple Pencil will only work for 2018 iPad Pro models. The original Apple Pencil will not work with 2018 iPad Pro models, sadly.
Apple also debuted a new Smart Keyboard Folio with two angles and better-streamlined design. The new Folio protects both the front and the back of the iPad Pro.
