Facebook Planning to Introduce New Stories for Events Feature

In an effort to make it easier for users to share the events they are interested in and coordinate meet-ups with friends, Facebook has today announced that it will soon begin testing a new Stories for Events feature. According to The Verge, the test will take place in the US, Brazil, and Mexico, for both iOS and Android users.

Using the standard Stories feature, users can share their photos and videos more visually with their friends as compared to the News Feed, using all sorts of cool filters and camera effects to jazz things up a bit. With the upcoming Stories for Events, users will be able to share the details of an event with their friends and see who may want to join them.

Facebook says the feature will come with tappable stickers for revealing event details, and friends can toggle themselves as “interested” or “going” to the event right from within the story.

“To be fair, for as uninteresting as Stories can be outside of Instagram, this is actually a very smart strategy that remixes the conventional format and does something genuinely useful with it. The issue, of course, is convincing your friends to actually check Facebook Stories, which, for most people, is a secondary priority after their Instagram or Snap Story or it’s not used at all.”

The social media giant claims its Stories products for the main Facebook app and Messenger currently have a combined 300 million daily users.
