Tim Hortons Launching Loyalty Program Soon, Beta Testing Underway
A new loyalty program is expected to launch this year from Tim Hortons, according to the company’s president, Alex Macedo.
Speaking with BNN Bloomberg’s Jon Erlichman, Macedo said in a “short period of time”, Tim Hortons will launch a loyalty program in Canada, which is currently in beta testing.
Macedo explained their data reveals customers visit stores in high frequency, noting some visit multiple times per day at exact times. This means the new loyalty program will “be able to offer them things to make their visits better.”
The Tim Hortons president said they have “evolved to seven market tests,” and added “we have a winner,” referring to the new loyalty program, expected to debut shortly this year, and expected to be part of the company’s mobile apps.
More and more Canadians are skipping the homebrew and buying coffee from outside the home using their smartphones. Data from the Coffee Association of Canada says 44% of coffee drinkers purchased their beverages from stores in 2017, a rise from 38% in 2015.
Starbucks, McDonalds and Tim Hortons all offer mobile order and pay from their smartphone apps.
Starbucks said last October nearly 40% of their sales in stores are related to their loyalty program, while the “vast majority” of orders were paid with the company’s smartphone app. eMarketer data says the Starbucks mobile app dominated mobile payments in the U.S. last year, outpacing Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay.
Last summer, Tim Hortons tested mobile delivery at select locations. The company’s mobile order and pay iOS app launched back in 2017, offering in-app Apple Pay for card reloads, but not single purchases.
