Apple Reveals Active iPhone Install Base for the First Time: 900 Million Globally

Apple has revealed a stat it never has before—revealing it has over 900 million active iPhone users as of the end of 2018. Starting with this Q1, Apple is no longer detailing device sales by units, but rather revenue instead.

CFO Luca Maestri revealed this during their Q1 earnings call, where it also said there is an active iOS user base of 1.4 billion, driving record services revenue, such as Apple Music, which now has 50 million paying subscribers.

Apple said it will continue to note its iPhone base and overall install base periodically. As for device popularity, it is led by iPhone XR, then iPhone XS Max and iPhone XS.

Apple says their customer satisfaction continues to be the highest in the industry, while CEO Tim Cook said “we do design our products to last as long as possible”.

Cook also mentioned to Reuters Apple is considering lowering iPhone pricing outside the U.S., in an effort to boost sales by using local currencies.

Also, the first bilingual launch of Apple News is coming to Canada “later this quarter”, according to Cook.
