Criterion Channel Streaming Service Launches in Canada on April 8

The Criterion Channel is launching a streaming service in Canada and the U.S. on April 8, offering classic movies available on-demand like Netflix.

The service is currently web-only, but on April 8, apps will be launching for desktop users, Apple TV, Amazon Fire, Roku, iOS and Android devices.

“Classics and discoveries from around the world, thematically programmed with special features, on a streaming service brought to you by the Criterion Collection,” is how the service is described.

Users signing up can get special benefits including an extended 30-day free (begins on April 8), reduced fees for membership “for the life of your subscription”, and an exclusive Movie of the Week leading up to the launch.

This service comes after streaming service Filmstruck was shuttered by WarnerMedia last fall, but now the latter has partnered with Criterion instead.

The Criterion Channel costs $10.99 USD per month, but an annual subscription is available at 25% off at $99.99 USD. It looks like Canadians will be billed in U.S. dollars. Time to add yet another monthly streaming service to your collection?
