Rogers Just Raised Internet and Cable TV Prices Again for Some Customers

Rogers has notified customers that it is raising the prices of some of its internet and cable TV packages by $3 per month.

Customers in Southwestern Ontario saw their rates increase on their first bill on or after March 1, 2019, while customers in the rest of Ontario and Atlantic Canada will see the increases on their first bill on or after April 1, 2019.

The price increase applies to Rogers internet packages launched before November 1, 2018 and to Rogers digital TV packages that launched before December 4, 2018, according to a company representative. “Digital TV” refers to traditional cable TV and does not apply to internet-based Ignite TV packages.

This comes just over a year after Rogers increased the price of all of its internet packages with speeds above 20 Mbps by $8 per month.

Rogers notified impacted customers at the bottom of their internet bills:

Our customers are continuing to use more data on more devices to stream, work and stay connected. We are committed to delivering exceptional Internet service and are constantly investing in our networks and infrastructure to make sure you can take full advantage of the latest technologies and connect more devices today and in the future. To support this ongoing investment, the monthly service fee for your Rogers Internet package will increase by $3 per month plus taxes starting on the date of your first bill on or after April 1, 2019.

There is a similar notice for cable TV:

Bringing you the latest TV shows, movies and sports you love to watch is what drives us to invest in our network and programming. To support this ongoing investment, the monthly service fee for your base TV package will increase by $3 per month plus taxes starting on the date of your first bill on or after April 1, 2019.

If your internet or TV package is included as part of your condo maintenance fees, these rate changes do not apply.

On its website, a company representative said usage on the Rogers network has increased by 425% over the past five years, suggesting that the carrier’s reasoning for increasing prices is due to an increase in customers. Of course, Rogers is also seeing increasing profits in turn, so take that as you will.

As technology evolves across our industry, we want to ensure our customers continue to enjoy quality products and services to support their growing needs. We continue to invest so the Rogers fibre-powered network keeps getting better and you can always take advantage of the latest devices, apps, and services. Over the past 5 years, usage on the Rogers network has increased by 425%, as people connect to more devices than ever before.

Editor’s Note: If you are unhappy with your Rogers bill, try negotiating with them by calling 1-855-381-7834. When my $99 per month internet, cable TV, and home phone promotion expired, I canceled my Rogers service, only to receive a phone call back within 45 minutes with an $82 per month offer. Your mileage may vary.
