2.9 Million Canadians Watched the Season 8 Premiere of Game of Thrones

According to Bell Media, the season eight premiere last night of HBO’s Game of Thrones was viewed by 2.9 million Canadians, across all platforms.

Bell says the final season premiere was viewed across “Crave’s linear, on demand, and streaming platforms.”

The premiere also ‘smashed’ Canadian Entertainment Specialty and Pay TV linear viewership records, with an average audience of 2.1 million viewers, the most in history.

Crave digital platforms saw the “largest night of streaming activity ever,” according to Bell Media, in an email to iPhone in Canada.

As for Crave subscriptions, Game of Thrones helped drive direct-to-consumer subscriptions up 1,000% in the week leading up to yesterday’s premiere, with Sunday seeing a 3,000 spike in sign ups, which most likely was assisted by the Crave app being featured in the App Store. The Crave iOS app is the top downloaded app right now in the ‘free’ category.

Crave says Game of Thrones “consistently ranks” as the top streamed title on Crave.ca and the Crave app, week-over-week.

According to HBO in U.S., yesterday’s premiere of Game of Thrones attracted 17.4 million viewers, a multi-platform record.
