Samsung Galaxy Fold Units are Breaking After One Day of Usage Say Reviewers
Samsung recently sent out the review units of its $1,980 Galaxy Fold smartphone to a handful of reviewers and sadly for the South Korean company, it appears that most of them are reporting broken units with pieces of debris distorting the screen only after one day of use (via The Verge).
As you can notice in the image above, a small bulge can be seen on the crease of the Galaxy Fold review unit. It not only distorts the screen but can also be felt under the finger.
According to The Verge, it feels as if something is pressing up against the screen at the hinge. “My best guess is that it’s a piece of debris, something harder than lint for sure.”
“I reached out to Samsung right away to get a statement, but as of right now they have not given me an official one. I have, however, received a replacement review unit from Samsung. I think the first one is on a jet to South Korea for Samsung’s engineers to take apart and diagnose.”
Other reviewers of the Galaxy Fold are also reporting similar problems with the screen. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman also broke his unit because he removed a protective layer that looks like a screen protector but isn’t meant to be removed. There was no indication the protector was not meant to be removed, he says.
The phone comes with this protective layer/film. Samsung says you are not supposed to remove it. I removed it, not knowing you’re not supposed to (consumers won’t know either). It appeared removable in the left corner, so I took it off. I believe this contributed to the problem. pic.twitter.com/fU646D2zpY

Similarly, Steve Kovach has not had a great experience with the device so far either, with his Galaxy Fold display breaking after one day of use.

Looks like Samsung is in this mess way deeper than it sounds. The Samsung Galaxy Fold will cost about $2,600 CAD. What do you guys think?
