Health Canada has again posted an update in regards to the Apple Watch electrocardiogram (ECG) features in the iPhone maker’s latest Series 4 wearable.
The latest tweet from Health Canada this morning told us, “Apple is still indicating that they are working to bring the Apple Watch heart features to Canada soon. However, to date, Health Canada has still not received an application.”
This newest response doesn’t exactly say much, compared to what was mentioned in March. Last month, Health Canada said, “Apple has communicated that they are working to bring the Apple Watch heart features to Canada soon. However, to date, Health Canada has not received an application.”
If and when Health Canada receives an application for Apple Watch Series 4 and its ECG, I have a feeling the government Twitter account may not provide an update, until after the ECG makes its way into Canada.
The government organization has been saying since last December it has “not received an application” from Apple regarding the ECG feature.
Apple’s ECG app works as follows on Apple Watch Series 4:
Electrodes built into the Digital Crown and the back crystal work together with the ECG app to read your heart’s electrical signals. Simply touch the Digital Crown to generate an ECG waveform in just 30 seconds. This data can indicate whether your heart rhythm shows signs of atrial fibrillation — a serious form of irregular heart rhythm — or sinus rhythm, which means your heart is beating in a normal pattern.
Currently, the ECG feature for Apple Watch Series 4 is only available for devices purchased in the United States, but saw expansion to parts of Europe and Hong Kong in late March. Canadians are expecting ECG support to be announced hopefully at WWDC 2019 or this fall when Apple is again expected to launch new iPhone models.
