Apple has announced its professional music production software, Logic Pro X, has been updated today with “performance updates for all users and optimizations that take advantage of the groundbreaking power of the all-new Mac Pro.”

Version 10.4.5 of Logic Pro X can now support up to 56 processing threads, 1,000 auxiliary channel strips, 1,000 external MIDI tracks and 12 sends per channel strip. Apple says the Mixer and Event List will see “improved responsiveness”, while Flex Time projects are now more efficient than before.

Other new features:

  • The loop browser can filter by loop type and allows drag and drop of multiple loops into your project simultaneously.
  • The redesigned DeEsser 2 plug-in provides more options to reduce sibilance on audio tracks.
  • MIDI beat clocks can be sent to individual ports, each with unique settings like timing offset and plug-in delay compensation.

Apple says Logic Pro X 10.4.5 and the new Mac Pro means users “can now run up to five times the number of real-time plug-ins,” versus the previous generation Mac Pro. Apple’s new Mac Pro is set to launch sometime this fall.

The Logic Pro X 10.4.5 update is available today as a free update for all Mac users. Logic Pro X costs $279.99 CAD for new customers. You can save 20% off by funding your Apple ID with discounted iTunes cards currently on sale at Costco (until Sunday), before making your purchase.
