Facebook Unveils ‘New Product Experimentation’ Team Aimed at Creating More Consumer-Focused Apps and Features

Facebook will begin developing experimental apps and features aimed at consumers.

According to a new press release, Facebook has formed an NPE Team — which stands for New Product Experimentation — with the aim of creating new consumer-focused apps and features.

“In the coming weeks, Facebook will begin to launch new consumer-focused apps under the developer name ‘NPE Team, from Facebook,'” reads the press release. “NPE Team apps will be aligned with Facebook’s mission of giving people the power to build community but will focus on shipping entirely new experiences. We decided to use this separate brand name to help set the appropriate expectations with users that NPE Team apps will change very rapidly and will be shut down if we learn that they’re not useful to people.”

The objective is to give individuals “entirely new experiences for building community” and to do as such outside of Facebook’s current stages. As indicated by Facebook, it’s an approach to make little, focused applications and check clients’ interest. A few highlights might be rolled into Facebook’s different items, however, it’s too early to state without a doubt.

“We expect many failures,” Facebook wrote in the press release. “We also want to minimize disruption to the billions of people who use Facebook apps every day.”

Facebook’s new, experimental apps will be available in the App Store, in the Google Play Store, and on the web, and the social network guarantees the applications will comply with its terms of administration and data policy. Facebook said its NPE Team will, without fail, advise users how their information is being utilized.
