The brand-new physical Apple Card is such a delicate piece of technology that the Cupertino company thinks it needs its very own set of cleaning instructions.
In a new support page, Apple outlines exactly how you should clean the Apple Card. Right off the bat, Apple does warn that the titanium finish, which has a multi-layered coating that gives it the distinct white look, can get scratched.
“If your titanium Apple Card comes into contact with hard surfaces or materials, it’s possible that the coating can be damaged,” read the instructions.
Apple also says that the card should avoid contact with denim and leather, as such materials “might cause permanent discoloration that will not wash off.”
A couple more things to watch out for when storing your Apple Card:
Avoid magnets. “If your card is placed close to a magnetic latch on a purse or bag, the magnetic strip can become demagnetized,” Apple warns.
Apple warns against storing your Apple Card in pockets or bags that contain “loose change, keys, or other potentially abrasive objects.”
Back to that laborious cleaning process. Here’s how Apple says you should clean your card:
“Gently wipe with a soft, slightly damp, lint-free microfiber cloth.”
“Moisten a soft, microfiber cloth with isopropyl alcohol and gently wipe the card.”
And don’t you even think about using “window or household cleaners, compressed air, aerosol sprays, solvents, ammonia, or abrasives.”
Should it get marked or stained, you’ll have to wipe it down with an isopropyl alcohol-dampened microfibre cloth. Of course, none of these cleaning suggestions (other than the magnetizing points) are reflective of the card’s functionality, it’s just a bit harder to flex your new card if it’s dirty.
