Apple CEO Tim Cook Donates $5 Million USD Worth of Shares to Charity

According to an SEC filing published yesterday, Apple CEO Tim Cook has donated Apple shares valued at nearly US $5 million to charity, CNBC News reports. The shares were held through Cook’s trust, although Apple refused to comment on the charity to which Cook made the donation.

As per Monday’s opening price of $205.86, the donation of 23,700 Apple shares comes out to a value of $4.87 million. Cook, who donated almost the same amount of stock last year as well to an undisclosed charity, retains 854,849 shares of Apple, according to the SEC filing.

In a separate announcement on Twitter, Cook also revealed that Apple is planning to donate to fight the fires raging in the Amazon rainforest.

In the past, Cook has donated to the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights and the Human Rights Campaign.
