After announcing the iPhone 11 (the successor to the iPhone XR), Apple announced the iPhone 11 Pro.

The new iPhone 11 Pro comes with a “pro design” and comes in new colours of midnight green, space grey, silver and new gold.

The phone comes with a new ‘Super Retina XDR’ display in 5.8-inch and 6.5-inches, to take from its Mac Pro. Brightness can support 1200 nits in the new OLED panel, with True Tone, P3 wide colour and more. The screen is 15% more efficient and comes with a 2 million to 1 contrast ratio.

iPhone 11 Pro comes with a “textured matte glass back and feature the toughest glass ever in a smartphone,” says Apple.

iPhone 11 Pro gets up to four hours longer battery life, while iPhone 11 Pro Max gets up to five hours longer per day, compared to iPhone XS predecessors. A new fast charger 18W adapter comes in the box. There’s spatial audio sound with Dolby Atmos support and the phone is powered by the new A13 Bionic chip.

The camera system now has three cameras including a new ultra-wide camera with a 120-degree field of view, so you can get “pro photography.” Meanwhile, the telephoto camera features a larger ƒ/2.0 aperture to capture 40 percent more light versus the iPhone XS.

A new Night mode lets you capture low light photography, while new editing tools are available for videos.

A software update coming later this fall will introduce a feature called Deep Fusion. The feature uses machine learning to take photos never been possible with an iPhone before. Before you press the shutter, 9 long and short images are taken, then a neural engine creates an output image, using “computational photography mad science”, explained SVP Phil Schiller.

iPhone 11 Pro comes with a new camera app and also new Smart HDR as well.

“iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max are the most powerful and advanced smartphones we have ever made. They are packed with sophisticated technology that pros can count on to get their work done, and for anyone who wants the very best device made, even if they are not a pro,” said Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “iPhone 11 Pro has the first triple-camera system in iPhone and is far and away the best camera we’ve ever made, it provides our customers with great range of creative control and advanced photo and video editing features in iOS 13. The Super Retina XDR is the brightest and most advanced display in iPhone and the A13 Bionic chip sets a new bar for smartphone performance and power efficiency.”

These new iPhone 11 Pro models are rated IP68 for water resistance up to 4 meters for up to 30 minutes says Apple.

Apple also has a new in-house designed U1 chip featuring Ultra Wideband technology, “the first ever in a smartphone, for spatial awareness.”

Apple says with “iOS 13.1 coming on September 30, AirDrop gets even better with directionally aware suggestions.”

Face ID is also now “up to 30 percent faster and easier to use with improved performance at varying distances and support for more angles.”

Apple also says, “Gigabit-class LTE up to 1.6Gbps and Wi-Fi 6 allow for even faster download speeds and Dual SIM with eSIM.”

These new models will be available at $999 USD for the iPhone 11 Pro and $1099 USD for the iPhone 11 Pro Max, with pre-orders to start at 5AM PDT/8AM EDT this Friday, September 13. Canadian pricing to follow, stay tuned.

UPDATE: iPhone 11 Pro pricing starts at $1,319 CAD in Canada.
