Facebook Testing Encrypted Audio, Video Calls Over Secret Conversations

According to a screenshot shared by Jane Manchun Wong, Facebook is testing audio and video calls over Secret Conversations that will be “end-to-end encrypted across all your active mobile devices,” Engadget is reporting.

Facebook’s Secret Conversations feature made its debut in 2016 and allows users to encrypt Messenger chats by tapping on their profile picture in the app, going to Secret Conversations and then switching it on.



Once enabled, the conversation is only visible on the device you choose and you can even set a time limit for each message you send.

The social network recently announced its plans to implement end-to-end encryption across its products, including Instagram — a move that’s frowned upon by authorities, who say they’re worried about not being able to investigate child sexual exploitation, terrorism and election meddling that occur on Facebook’s platform.

Wong also notes that Facebook is working on bringing its Voice Assistant to the main app.
