Apple May Release New iPad and MacBook Pro With Mini-LED Displays In 2020

2020 will likely be a big year for Apple. It is suggested that the company is planning to release major upgrades to the iPhone, with four different models. It also appears that Apple could be planning a significant design upgrade in the iPad Pro and MacBook Pro department.

In a recent report from MacRumors, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has indicated that Apple may be looking to ship between four and six new products with mini-LED displays between 2020 and 2022.

Unfortunately, Kuo was unable to describe each of the six new products Apple is apparently planning to release. However, a 12.9-inch iPad Pro with an A14X chip was said to be in production with a target release in the third quarter of 2020. Kuo also mentioned that a revised 16-inch MacBook Pro would release in the fourth quarter of 2020.

Without going into too much detail, Kuo did acknowledge that this design revamp would “significantly improve productivity and the entertainment experience.” Although one could assume it would be to not only provide a much cleaner and crisper display but would also ensure that the unit itself becomes more lightweight. Mini-LED displays can provide a much more diverse array of colour, incorporate localized dimming, and maintain HDR settings. It would also allow thinner displays to be produced when compared to the current LCD displays in both iPads and MacBooks.

It has been said that LG and GIS would play a significant role in the production of Apple’s new products. This report has been substantiated by DigiTimes and the Economic Daily News.

There’s currently no word on whether or not mini-LED displays would be implemented in future iPhone devices.
