Samsung officially unveiled its new flip phone—the Galaxy Z Flip, which is priced at $1819.99 CAD, launching on February 21, 2020. The unveiling took place at the company’s Unpacked event in San Francisco, California.

The Galaxy Z Flip is a folding clamshell smartphone, which looks like a Nintendo Gameboy Advance. Instead of plastic, the display is glass and Samsung says it can be folded 200,000 times.

The new Galaxy Z Flip has an ‘Infinity Flex Display’, which takes from the company’s Galaxy Fold, in the shape of a 6.7-inch OLED display with 2636 x 1080 resolution and 425 ppi.

The phone also will have a Snapdragon 855+ processor and 8GB of RAM, to go with 256GB of internal storage. Battery life will come from a dual 3,300 mAh battery, while wireless charging will be available.

As for cameras, there are dual 12MP cameras on the rear (ultra wide included), while on the outside of the phone, a small Cover Display (1.1″ Super AMOLED; 300 x 112; 303 ppi) shows time, notifications and can act as a viewfinder for selfies from the rear camera.

At $1819.99 CAD, the Galaxy Z Flip is not going to be a cheap smartphone, but is less than what the Galaxy Fold debuted at ($2600 CAD). It will be available in “Mirror Purple and Mirror Black, starting in select markets including Canada,” says Samsung Canada.

Update: Added Canadian pricing and availability from Samsung Canada.
