AirPods Pro ‘Lite’ Reportedly in Production: DigiTimes

Could a lighter version of the recently-released AirPods Pro be around the corner?

Earlier this month, DigiTimes claimed that Apple is working on a “lite” version of AirPods Pro called “AirPods Pro Lite.” Now, in yet another report, the same publication says that Apple is going ahead with its plans to offer a new version of AirPods Pro.

As reported by MacRumors, the recent DigiTimes report states:

USI likely to enter supply chain of AirPods Pro, sources say Taiwan-based Universal Scientific Industrial (USI), a unit of ASE Technology, is likely to obtain system-in-package (SiP) orders for the upcoming AirPods Pro, according to industry sources.

The initial report says that “AirPods Pro Lite” will be an entry-level version of the AirPods Pro. That being said the details are still scarce and the report has not mentioned anything about the specifications. According to the report, AirPods Pro Lite production will only begin after the second half of 2020.

A new set of AirPods Pro could perhaps mean an entry-level, dumbed-down version of the AirPods Pro, perhaps without Active Noise Cancelation. It could also, however, be a misnomer, and might actually refer to Apple’s third-generation AirPods, as Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman suggests.

Given DigiTimes‘ iffy record when it comes to Apple leaks, it’s best to take this rumour with a grain of salt. Apple is already offering an AirPods Pro and AirPods, so we’re curious how the alleged AirPods Pro Lite will slot in.
