Rogers and Fido Increase Activation Fees to $40, Joining Telus and Bell

Rogers website

After Telus and Koodo raised activation fees last month to $40—matching Bell and Virgin Mobile—it was only a matter of time before Rogers and Fido followed suit.

According to the websites of Rogers and Fido, the Setup Service Fee is now $40, up from $35, or a 14% increase.

Fido’s fine print reads:

A Setup Service Fee of $40 applies to setup your device and related services. The Setup Service Fee is waived through self-serve on fido.ca (but not through Live Chat and Customer Service). If you require device setup in-store thereafter, a $40 Setup Service Fee will apply.

Fido website

Rogers has similar fine print as well, noting the $40 price:

A Setup Service Fee of $40 per line applies to setup your device and related services. The Setup Service Fee is waived through self-serve on rogers.com (but not through Live Chat and Customer Service). If you require device setup in-store thereafter, a $40 Setup Service Fee will apply.

Self-serve online activations by Rogers and Fido customers will see the fee waived, but if you require any interaction from a real human being, it’ll cost you $40; other ‘Big 3’ carriers follow the same practice.
