‘iPhone SE 2’ Entering Final Production Verification Stage: Digitimes

A new report suggests the new low-cost iPhone has entered its final production verification stage.

According to Taiwanese publication Digitimes, the new low-cost iPhone, which has been called the “iPhone SE 2” and the “iPhone 9” so far, has reached the final verification stage at an assembly plant in Zhengzhou, China ahead of its impending launch.

Details are light for now, as this is just a preview of a forthcoming report, but based on the description of the report Apple has reached a milestone ahead of the new phone’s arrival at some point in the (probably near) future

New LCD iPhone enters final verification stage
Apple will soon introduce a new LCD iPhone series, dubbed tentatively SE2, which has recently entered the final phase of verification at an assembly plant in Zhengzhou, China, according to industry sources.

As MacRumors explains, the lower-cost iPhone is expected to resemble the iPhone 8, with a 4.7-inch LCD screen and a Touch ID home button, but with a faster A13 chip and an increased 3GB of RAM. Pricing is estimated to start at around $399 USD with 64GB of storage.

With regards to an announcement, it had been postulated that Apple would hold an event in March — perhaps on the 31st — to announce the new device. However, recent fears regarding the COVID-19 outbreak have led to several high profile events and conferences being cancelled, including MWC, the Geneva Motor show and Google’s I/O event.
