Quibi (short for quick bites) is a mobile streaming service set to launch in Canada on April 6, with two paid versions. In Canada, news and sports content will be exclusively produced by Bell Media for Quibi’s daily curated video segment.

According to Bell, there will be two series it will produce for Quibi’s Daily Essentials, “which will feature curated news, entertainment and inspirational content each day.” Bell says it will also market Quibi through its media and mobility channels.

“We’re thrilled to expand our digital footprint in this partnership with the new and highly anticipated mobile platform, Quibi,” said Randy Lennox, President, Bell Media, in a statement.

CTV News will produce daily news, available on mornings and evenings Monday to Friday, and mornings for the weekend. TSN will create sports info for Quibi for every day of the week in the morning.

Quibi will have “movie-quality shows designed for your phone” at 10 minutes or less, while also offer offline downloads for viewing content.

“We are excited to partner with Bell and Canada’s top news and sports brands from Bell Media to deliver daily curated programs that will provide Canadians all of the biggest moments and stories of the day in quick bites,” said Jeffrey Katzenberg, Founder and Chairman of the Board, Quibi, in a press release.

Quibi will cost $6.99 CAD per month with ads, and $9.99 CAD without ads, available via its iOS and Android app. The service will launch in Canada and the USA in April and is led by CEO Meg Whitman, the former chief executive of HP.

Another paid streaming service will be a tough ask for Canadians, especially when it’s only available on your phone and not other devices and your TV, unlike other streaming services like Netflix, Apple TV+, Disney+ and more. Will you be jumping on Quibi?
