iOS 14 ‘Find My’ Includes Notification Triggers, AR Mode

There are some big changes coming to Apple’s “Find My” app in iOS 14.

According to a new report from 9to5Mac, the first of the changes appear to be new notification abilities in terms of when a person reaches or leaves a location. While Find My can already notify users when someone arrives at or leaves a location, iOS 14 seems to have slightly different options. According to the report, the update will allow users to receive notifications if someone doesn’t arrive at a location by a specific time; the same goes for if a user leaves somewhere before a specific time, too.

“The new alert options will also include being notified when a contact leaves a location before a set time,” explains the report. “For example, you can be notified if you expect your child to be at school or a friend’s house until a specific time of day and they leave early.”

The second change is a new augmented reality mode that will allow users to locate a person or device in an AR world. The report explains that this is a feature that has been suggested before, particularly alongside news of Apple’s much-rumored AirTags:

Apple’s Find My app in iOS 14 will also work with augmented reality headsets. ARKit, Apple’s augmented reality developer framework, includes headset mode in the upcoming software update.

Users will be able to locate visually using augmented reality for more precise directions from close locations, including upcoming Apple AirTag device trackers.

The addition will allow users to visually locate precise directions using augmented reality via close locations. It is not yet clear if the feature will only work with Apple’s rumored AR headset or other third-party headsets as well.

9to5Mac has also discovered a number of new features and changes in development for release later this year, including low blood oxygen saturation detection for Apple Watch Series 6, new “Infograph Pro” and “International” watch faces in watchOS 7, evidence of a new Apple TV remote, updates to HomeKit, and more.
