Apple Patches Unc0ver Jailbreak with iOS 13.5.1

Today Apple released a variety of software updates, including iOS 13.5.1, addressing what were unnamed security updates in its description.

However, Apple’s latest security content page for iOS 13.5.1 and iPadOS 13.5.1 says these updates address a kernel issue for iPhone 6s and later, iPad Air 2 and later, iPad mini 4 and later, and iPod touch 7th generation.

Specifically, Apple says the update patches a situation where “an application may be able to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges.”

As for the description, Apple says “a memory consumption issue was addressed with improved memory handling,” and then mentions “CVE-2020-9859: unc0ver”.

@Pwn20wnd from the unc0ver team said earlier today, “iOS 13.5.1 and tvOS 13.4.6 were just released to patch the kernel vulnerability used by the #unc0ver jailbreak. Do not update your devices.”

The unc0ver team released its iOS 13.5 jailbreak last week and Apple has already patched the jailbreak. For those with jailbroken devices, they are being advised to not update to iOS 13.5.1 as that will remove the jailbreak.
