Apple to Launch AirPods 3 in First Half of 2021: Kuo

Apple plans to release a new pair of AirPods in the first half of 2021. According to revered Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the AirPods 3 will have a similar design to the AirPods Pro.

Kuo’s latest research notes, which have been verified by MacRumours, make note of a new pair of AirPods expected to ship in 2021. The AirPods Pro transitioned away from the standard AirPod design and into one more form-fitting. Launched in 2019, the AirPod Pro featured a shorter stem, provided better noise cancellation and included three flexible silicone tips, each different sizes to fit the user’s ear. Of course, being the “Pro” model, the AirPods Pro touted better sound quality and increased resistance to water and swear.

It’s not known exactly what design features the AirPods 3 will take from the Pro model. Kuo’s notes simply specify that they will be “similar to the AirPods Pro”. Kuo’s notes also specify that it’s unlikely a pair of AirPods will be included in the box of the iPhone 12. Though, he does expect some sort of promotion to go live, which may discount the current offerings of AirPods to new and existing users.

Currently, the second-generation AirPods start at $219.00 CAD for the standard wired charging case. Apple offers second-generation AirPods with a wireless case for $269.00 CAD. AirPods Pro, on the other hand, is sold for $329.00 CAD and comes with a wireless case.
