Skype iOS App Adds Blurred Background Feature

Skype’s iOS app has been updated to include a widely requested feature. Moving forward, users can toggle a blurred background option, obscuring the view of the background when on a video call.
As reported by MacRumors, the blurred background feature has been added to Skype’s app on both iPhone and iPad. This notable feature, which has been previously seen across other platforms and services allows users to immediately obscure their background when on a call. It’s not only helpful for those who didn’t have time to tidy up their office, but it’s a great feature for blocking out potential business plans, whiteboards, etc.
From the Skype blog pertaining to blurred backgrounds, the Skype team explains: “Background blur in Skype and Teams uses artificial intelligence (AI)—trained in human form detection—to keep you in focus during your call. This technology is also trained to detect your hair, hands, and arms, making a call with background blur just as relaxed and easy as a regular video call.”
To enable the blurred background in Skype’s iOS app, users must only navigate to the settings and toggle the “Blur my background” option.
Skype’s blurred background feature is also available on most desktops and laptops.
