Canada’s COVID Alert App Now Works in iOS 14 Beta 4

Apple today released iOS 14 beta 4 for developers and with it, enabled support for its Exposure Notification API, a key component to allow COVID-19 exposure notification apps such as Canada’s COVID Alert to work.

When Canada released COVID Alert last Friday nationwide, support for the app was only in Ontario as health authorities in the latter had signed on. Many iPhone users running iOS 14 beta 3 and the Public Beta on their primary devices were quick to realize the app did not work, as Apple had not enabled support for the Exposure Notification API yet.

But with iOS 14 beta 4 today, MacRumors reports the update now supports the Exposure Notification API, meaning COVID Alert will now indeed function as expected.

On Sunday, the federal government announced COVID Alert had already been downloaded 1.1 million times on iOS and Android. Atlantic Canada is expected to support the app next, according to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
