LG Renews Promise to Bring AirPlay and HomeKit Support to 2018 TV Models

LG has renewed its plan to bring AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support to 2018 TV models after backtracking on its promise in late August.

Users of 2018 LG TVs had a moment of panic last week when LG UK’s Twitter account told a customer that it had “no plans to update” its TVs to support AirPlay 2 or HomeKit. That flew in the face of what the company had previously said, and it turns out it was wrong, too.

The same Twitter account has today shared the news that those same 2018 TVs will indeed get an update that includes AirPlay 2 and HomeKit.

As MacRumors noted, LG has deleted the original tweet claiming it cancelled plans to bring the features to older TVs. The fact that the original tweet was followed by complaints from disgruntled owners of 2018 TV sets may have forced the company to change its stance.

That said, folks with a 2018 TV set like LG’s SK and UK models, as well as the B8 through Z8 OLED models, will be getting support for AirPlay 2 and HomeKit late this year after all.
