Uber Announces Plan to Transition to Zero-Emissions Mobility in Canada by 2030

Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi has today shared his company’s ambitious plan to combat climate change in Canada, with a goal to drive the transition to zero-emissions mobility in major cities by 2030, and globally by 2040, for a cleaner, more sustainable future.

The ride-hailing giant plans to achieve its goal by committing to the following four key actions:

1. Expanding Uber Green into Canada: Starting today, Uber is offering hybrid and EV options for riders around the world, including Toronto, Vancouver, Ottawa, and Waterloo Region, with Montreal to follow.
2. Committing $800 million in resources to help hundreds of thousands of drivers transition to electric vehicles by 2025, starting with a partnership with GM in Canada.
3. Investing in multimodal networks to promote sustainable alternatives to personal car ownership.
4. Providing deeper transparency and accountability by sharing insights on Uber’s current environmental impact in the US and Canada.

To promote sustainable alternatives to personal car ownership, Uber is launching Transit Journey Planning which making public transit options available on the Uber app.

Starting in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver, Transit Journey Planning helps riders choose the quickest, most affordable way to get from A to B, featuring  local transit pricing, timing, delays and service alerts.
