Telus, Bell, Rogers Have the Highest Wireless Prices in the World Says Study
Finland-based Rewheel Research is back with another wireless study, this time releasing its latest 4G and 5G Connectivity Competitiveness 2020 Study.
“Telus, Bell and Rogers Canada were the operators with the least competitive monthly prices (i.e. highest weighted average monthly prices),” explains Rewheel.
Check out the chart below. We’ve emphasized where Telus, Bell and Rogers stand. In fifth place is Shaw’s Freedom Mobile:

The monthly price metrics look at a variety of 4G and 5G plans, ranging from various minutes and data buckets.

Looking at the monthly price for 1 gigabyte of data on 4G and 5G smartphone plans with at least 100 minutes and 1 Mbit/s peak speed, Rewheel said Telus had the most expensive prices, at 16x the cost of the lowest-priced carrier–Jio India.
Looking at the monthly price for 100 gigabytes of data on 4G and 5G smartphone plans with at least 100 minutes and 50 Mbit/s peak speed, Rewheel said Rogers had the most expensive prices, at 17x the cost of the lowest-priced carrier–Jio India.
In the second half of 2020, Rewheel says Canada’s wireless prices were the highest among 168 operators in 48 European, American, Asia Pacific and African countries.
In the past, as expected, wireless carriers in Canad have been critical of Rewheel’s methodology. There’s not much to say other than somebody has to pay for 5G networks right?
