2020 Holiday Tech Gift Guide for Procrastinators
Okay so there’s 10 days to go before Christmas Day and you haven’t started shopping yet…well, here’s a quick 2020 tech holiday gift guide for you procrastinators out there. If your present won’t arrive on time—who cares, just spend a bit more (it’s the thought that counts)!
A New iPhone 12 from Apple
The iPhone 12 and 12 mini are available online and will arrive in time. As for the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max, they are sold out online, but are available in-store for pick up. You cannot go wrong with a new iPhone for any occasion.
- iPhone 12 – from $1129 CAD
- iPhone 12 mini – from $979 CAD
- iPhone 12 Pro – from $1,399 CAD
- iPhone 12 Pro Max – $1,549 CAD
Spigen iPhone 12 Cases
- From $11.99 CAD each; don’t spend $60+ for an Apple case
A New Apple Silicon MacBook Air, MacBook Pro or Mac mini
We’ve been using the M1 MacBook Air housed with Apple’s own CPU, and it runs like a beast. They won’t arrive until early January online, but they are available in-store for pick up.
- 13” M1 MacBook Air – from $1,299 CAD
- 13” M1 MacBook Pro – from $1,699 CAD
- M1 Mac mini – from $899 CAD
A New iPad Air
This new iPad Air has the same design from more expensive iPad Pros and has Touch ID integrated into the power button, which we like.
AirPods Pros
- $263 on Amazon.ca, new all-time low; Active Noise Cancellation and spatial audio are pretty awesome features.
HomePod mini
- $129 from Apple but sold out until January; a pair sounds better but this will do the job for a small room. One of the more ‘affordable’ Apple gifts you can buy.
Amazon Echo (4th gen)
- On sale for $89.99 (save $55) and includes a free smart bulb. Our pick over Nest Audio and HomePod mini; full list of Amazon devices on sale here.
Sonos Arc
- $999 and supports Dolby Atmos. Must-have soundbar. Add a Sub (or two) and it’ll blow your mind.
Roomba i7+ with Clean Base
- $799.99 (save $200) and the clean base automatically empties your Roomba. Who doesn’t want a vacuum for Christmas (have fun sleeping on the couch)?
Nest Hello Video Doorbell
- $299 – pretty useless without a Nest Aware subscription, but this is one of our favourites.
Software Gifts
- TripMode: must-have for those who use Personal Hotspot to tether an iPhone connection to Mac
- Disney+ subscription: get in for an annual subscription before next year’s price increase
- Setapp: the Netflix of high-quality Mac apps
- 1Password: password managers have never been more important
If all else fails, nothing beats cold, hard, (sanitized) cash. Make it so.
