After releasing a super minor refresh for its AirPods Max headphones back in the fall of 2024 to get USB-C, Apple’s first-gen premium over-the-air headphones have hit clearance pricing at Costco warehouses.
Nearly two years after getting a USB-C and new colours (Midnight, Starlight, Blue, Purple, and Orange), Apple’s AirPods Max with H1 have hit clearance pricing of $499.97 at Costco warehouses out west, iPhone in Canada can confirm. This is product number 4880984 if you want to call and ask to see if they are in stock or not.
AirPods Max 2, which gained a hardware refresh earlier this year to the H2 chip, have slightly better active noise cancellation and better intelligent features such as live translation, adaptive audio and conversation awareness. But the design remains the same as the original from way back in 2020, still pretty heavy on your head. These ones are not on clearance at Costco.
Costco warehouses in Canada had priced AirPods Max (USB-C) at $647.99, which are $151 cheaper than Apple’s previous retail pricing of $779 CAD (before a price increase in March to $799) for AirPods Max. At Costco’s clearance pricing of $499.97, it is close to the $449 sale we saw earlier this year on Amazon.ca.
So are new AirPods Max headphones coming? According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, he says don’t count on it. Apple is focusing still on the high-selling line of AirPods and AirPods Pro.
