iPhone 13 to Feature Improved Sensor-Shift Optical Image Stabilization
A new rumour says the iPhone 13 will get improved sensor-shift optical image stabilization across the board for its Ultra Wide lenses.
A report from Digitimes claims that Apple will expand the newly introduced sensor-shift stabilization to the ultra-wide camera in iPhone 13 Pro this year. Apple introduced sensor-shift stabilization with iPhone 12 Pro Max last year, and the technology improves the optical image stabilization of the smartphone by shifting the whole sensor instead of the lens.
Both the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max will get Sensor-Shift upgrades for both wide and ultrawide cameras, explains the report, leading to improved stabilization when capturing still images or video. These news lenses will also feature autofocus upgrades, though the nature of these upgrades was not included in the report.
Sensor-Shift Optical Image Stabilization or in-body image stabilization (also known as IBIS) is where the stabilization unit is present within the sensor, allowing for a more effective reduction of camera shake.
It was reported as far back as October that Apple plans to bring the beefier camera of the iPhone 12 Pro Max to the rest of its lineup later this year. Apple’s next iPhone is expected to include 120Hz ProMotion displays, as well as an under-display fingerprint sensor.
