Apple Planning Massive Upgrades Across Entire Mac Range: Bloomberg

A new report says Apple has massive upgrade plans for its entire Mac range.

Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman reports that the Cupertino company is planning to upgrade its entire Mac range — including a new MacBook Air, Mac mini, and Mac Pro — with big jumps in performance thanks to new Apple silicon.

The revamped MacBook Pro could debut as early as this summer with the updated MacBook Air coming later this year, writes Gurman, citing unnamed source familiar with the matter.

Alongside reports of a new MacBook Pro with a 10-core Apple silicon chip, Gurman says that Apple is planning a “revamped” MacBook Air, a new “low-end MacBook Pro,” a new Mac mini, a larger iMac, and a new Mac Pro.

After the new MacBook Pros have been unveiled, Gurman says Apple plans to release “a revamped MacBook Air, new low-end MacBook Pro and an all-new Mac Pro workstation.” A higher-end Mac mini and larger iMac are also reportedly in the works.

All of the devices will feature new processors designed in-house by Apple that will “greatly outpace the performance and capabilities of the current M1 chips,” the report reads.

If true, the move shows how Apple is quickly working to capitalize on using its own chips after announcing last year it would transition away from Intel processors. The Apple M1 processor made its debut in the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and Mac Mini last year and is also used in the new iMac, which launched this spring.
