Apple Music Spatial Audio Event Set for 12pm PDT on June 7
According to a Reddit thread, Apple will be launching the Spatial Audio feature for Apple Music at 12 pm PDT/3pm EDT on Monday, June 7, shortly after the keynote for Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC).
The Reddit thread in question links to a now-deleted Spatial Audio page on the Apple Music New Zealand website — it looks like someone at Apple Music New Zealand got a little too trigger-happy after they were done setting the page up.
There was no mention of Lossless Audio, which was slated to launch around the same time as Spatial Audio, so it’s possible that the former will be part of the announcements at WWDC itself.
Spatial Audio features Dolby Atmos and provides a three-dimensional audio experience — the listener perceives music as playing all around them instead of on either side.
Spatial Audio will be available on all devices running iOS/iPadOS 14.6 or later, and on all Apple/Beats audio products with an H1 or W1 chip, including the HomePod and HomePod mini, and even the AirPods Pro and AirPods Max which won’t be able to play Lossless Audio.
WWDC 2021 kicks off Monday, June 7, at 10am PDT/1pm EDT. We’ll be covering the event as always, so stay tuned.
