‘Calendar Spam’ Invitations Continue to Plague iCloud Users

iCloud users continue to be plagued by “calendar spam” invitations, causing their calendars to be filled with random events.

The issue was first noticed in 2016, notes MacRumors, explaining that Apple said it was “actively working to address this issue” by “identifying and blocking suspicious senders.”

The most common method that victims are targeted is by receiving a normal iCloud calendar invite through the Calendar app and accepting it before properly vetting the invite.

“Interacting with the invitation, including declining, accepting, or choosing ‘Maybe,’ lets the spammer know that the email is valid, so it can continue to be targeted,” explains the report. Users can also be targeted through pop-ups on sketchy websites.

Apple hasn’t yet commented on the issue, but a video posted by Apple Support has around 97,000 views, explaining that there is indeed a solution.

As one might expect, users simply need to unsubscribe from the spam calendar invites. In order to more effectively prevent this from happening more often, users should simply vet an invite and not simply click “OK.”
