Apple Watch 7 to Reportedly Feature Double-Sided S7 Chip

According to a report by Taiwan’s DigiTimes, the next-generation Apple Watch Series 7 is expected to feature a smaller “S7” chip, which will allow Apple to use a larger battery and other components (via MacRumors).

The report notes that Taiwanese supplier ASE Technology will provide double-sided System in Package (SiP) packaging for future Apple Watch models. ASE Technology’s website also states that its double-sided technology allows for module miniaturization, paving the way for a smaller “S7” chip.

Based on previous reports, Apple Watch Series 7 models are expected to debut later this year, with Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman claiming that Apple has tested thinner display bezels and a new lamination technique that brings the display closer to the front cover.

A recent leak by John Prosser suggests the next Apple Watch will also feature a new flat-edged design and an all-new green colour option.
