2015 12-inch Retina MacBook Added to Apple’s Vintage Products List

Released in 2015 as a smaller, lighter version of the MacBook Air with an Intel Core M processor, the 12-inch “Retina MacBook” has now been added to Apple’s list of vintage products (via MacRumors).

Apple updated the 12-inch MacBook in 2016 and 2017, but ended up discontinuing the model in 2019 in favour of the updated ‌MacBook Air‌ with Retina display since the two machines had very similar specs. When it was available, the 12-inch MacBook was priced at US $1,299.

Products are considered vintage when Apple has stopped distributing them for sale more than 5 and less than 7 years ago.

For most vintage products, the designation means that they’re no longer eligible for repairs at the Genius Bar or from Apple Authorized Service Providers, but Apple does offer extended repairs of select vintage products.
