Disney and Pixar’s Upcoming Film ‘Turning Red’ Takes Place in Toronto [TRAILER]

Disney and Pixar announced on Tuesday an all-new original film coming soon, ‘Turning Red’, set to debut on March 11, 2022.

‘Turning Red’ is from Oscar-winning Pixar Animation Studios’ director Domee Shi (short film ‘Bao’), with Ottawa’s Sandra Oh as one of the voices in the film, which takes place in Toronto, Ontario, with numerous Canadian Easter eggs coming throughout the movie.

“We are beyond thrilled that director Domee Shi chose her hometown of Toronto as the backdrop for her new feature film,” says Greg Mason, VP of Marketing for Walt Disney Studios Canada, in an issued statement. “With Ottawa native Sandra Oh lending her voice and a group of very talented Canadian artists on the filmmaking team, Turning Red truly is a love letter to Toronto and Canada. There are a couple of great Canadian easter eggs in this trailer and we can’t wait for Canadian audiences to see more when the film hits theatres next year.”

The film’s synopsis is below:

Young actress Rosalie Chiang lends her voice to Mei Lee, a 13-year-old who suddenly “poofs” into a giant red panda when she gets too excited (which is practically ALWAYS). Sandra Oh (“The Chair,” “Killing Eve”) voices Mei Lee’s protective, if not slightly overbearing mother, Ming, who is never far from her daughter—an unfortunate reality for the teenager. Directed by Shi and produced by Lindsey Collins .
