Quebecor’s subsidiary, Videotron, announced on Wednesday it is now offering free long distance calls from Canada to Haiti, and to Afghanistan.
“In line with its commitment to the community, Videotron is suspending long-distance charges for calls from Canada to Haiti and Afghanistan, effective immediately and until September 15, 2021, to allow customers to reach family and loved ones in those countries without having to worry about tolls,” explained the company in a statement.
According to Videotron, charges will be automatically cancelled for residential, business and mobile accounts. There is no need to contact the company before placing a call to both countries, as all charges will be dropped.
Haiti is recovering from a 7.2 magnitude earthquake, that has affected 1 million people and killed nearly 2,000; Afghanistan’s democratic government has been taken over by the Taliban, with the U.S. exiting the war-torn country after two decades.
