The province of British Columbia has released its app to allow businesses to scan and verify BC Vaccine Cards, which verify the vaccinated status of residents. Starting on Monday, September 13, BC will require residents show at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine to enter select non-essential businesses.

The BC Vaccine Card Verifier app was released for download on Friday for iPhone users. The Android version is coming soon, according to Health Minister Adrian Dix on Friday.

Update Sept. 12: Android version now available.

BC Vaccine Card Verifier is the official mobile application from the Government of British Columbia for businesses to verify BC Vaccine Cards.

“The app allows businesses to validate proof of vaccination presented by British Columbians in the form of QR codes. On scanning a valid QR code, the app will show whether the individual is fully or partially vaccinated. The app will display the vaccination status along with the name of the individual,” explains the app description.

“Verification is done locally on the device without communicating with the internet. The app does not save any information on the device nor does it collect any usage analytics,” adds its description. Access to your iPhone camera will be required to use the app.

Businesses will see a green “vaccinated” message and the resident’s name, when they are vaccinated. Patrons will also need to provide government-issued ID as well.

It would be nice if there was Apple Wallet support for B.C. residents to store their QR code for quick access. Or even a separate app to launch to bring up your QR code, which can only be saved as a bloody screenshot from the BC Health Gateway website.
