iPhone 13 Pro Reportedly Costs Apple $20 More to Make Than iPhone 12 Pro

The iPhone 13 Pro is reported to cost Apple $20USD more to manufacture than its predecessor, the iPhone 12 Pro. However, despite the added cost to make the new model, Apple remained steadfast in offering the iPhone 13 Pro at a starting price of $1,399CAD, the same price as the iPhone 12 Pro at launch last year.

As reported by MacRumors, consumer good analyst company TechInsights wrote a blog post outlining their cost analysis breakdown of the iPhone 13. According to their findings, the iPhone 13 Pro costs $570USD to manufacture thanks in part due to the improved battery, ProMotion display, and the upgraded A15 Bionic chip powering the device. For comparison, the iPhone 12 Pro costs Apple $548.

Although the manufacturing price of the iPhone 13 Pro is higher, the gap between the current model and its predecessor isn’t as wide as it was between the iPhone 12 and iPhone 11. This is likely due to the fact that the iPhone 12 series introduced 5G connectivity, a new design, and the new 5nm chip.

Surprisingly, the iPhone 13 Pro hasn’t seen a price increase to compensate for the higher manufacturing price. Leading up to the launch of the iPhone 13 series, it was speculated that Apple would increase the price of all the new models upon launch to compensate for chip prices. However, that wasn’t the case. In fact, Apple only broadened the pricing by introducing new storage options for users, including the 1TB option for both iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max.
