Apple Unveils USB-C MagSafe 3 Cable, 67W and 140W USB-C Power Adapters
With today’s unveiling of its new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro with ProMotion display and also a notch due to its thinner bezels, Apple also bought back MagSafe to the Mac.
MagSafe 3 is a thinner version of its predecessor and included with all the new MacBook Pro models is a USB-C to MagSafe 3 cable, which can be purchased on its own for $59 CAD.
As for USB-C power adapters, different versions are included depending on which MacBook Pro you buy:
- 67W USB-C Power Adapter (included with M1 Pro with 8-core CPU)
- 96W USB-C Power Adapter (included with M1 Pro with 10-core CPU or M1 Max, configurable with M1 Pro with 8-core CPU)
- 140W USB-C Power Adapter: included with all 16-inch MacBook Pro versions
The new 67W USB-C power adapter is available on its own for $75 CAD (showing November 1-8 deliver), while the 140W USB-C power adapter, which supports fast charging (0 to 50% battery in about 30 minutes) costs $119 CAD (showing November 16-22 delivery).
“The 67W USB-C Power Adapter offers fast, efficient charging at home, in the office or on the go. It’s compatible with numerous USB-C devices and charging cables. Apple recommends pairing this power adapter with your 13-inch MacBook Pro (2016 and later) or your 14-inch MacBook Pro with M1 Pro chip with 8-core CPU,” explains Apple.
As for the 140W USB-C adapter, “Apple recommends pairing this power adapter with your 16‑inch MacBook Pro (2021) using a USB-C to MagSafe 3 Cable to take advantage of fast charging, so you can go from 0 to 50 per cent charge in around 30 minutes,” says the company.
