Dropbox caused quite the online uproar after it said it would only support Apple Silicon for Mac if users were to upvote the feature in its forums.
A spokesperson for Dropbox reached out to iPhone in Canada to clarify the company’s stance on the matter, pointing us to Houston’s statement on Twitter, shared Thursday morning.
“We’re certainly supporting Apple Silicon, sorry for the confusion. We’ve been working for a while on a native M1 build which we aim to release in H1 2022. (And agree the responses in the support thread were not ideal — no need to upvote for this one)”, said Houston.

Many Dropbox users threaten to abandon the service for iCloud and Google Drive, if native Apple Silicon support wasn’t forthcoming.
Native support means the Dropbox app will offer better battery life on M1 Macs and no longer need to run in Rosetta, the automatic emulator to allow Intel apps to work on M1 computers.
