Google Celebrates Wordle’s Success in New Search Easter Egg

Google Search is celebrating the success of the popular daily word puzzle web game, ‘Wordle’, with a new, animated easter egg logo that only appears when you search for “Wordle” on desktop (via 9to5Google).

The easter egg is visible in the top-left corner of the Google Search results page for the term “Wordle”, in lieu of the usual Google logo. The animation highlights the core of Wordle’s gameplay, starting out with the word “Column” and progressing towards “Google” over the next couple of turns.

Created by Brooklyn, New York-based Reddit engineer Josh Wardle, the daily word guessing game is simple, yet challenging. The premise of the game is to guess a five-letter word in six tries (or less), with clues provided after each attempt.

Wordle can only be played on the web and isn’t available as an app. However, the game’s popularity has resulted in several knockoff apps being created and some completely unrelated apps being accidentally downloaded hundreds of thousands of times in recent weeks.

Wordle’s creator confirmed earlier this month that the game will remain ad-free and simple. Furthermore, there are no plans to create a mobile app for the, which has gained 300,000 players in three months.
