Montreal’s Transit app announced it now supports Apple Pay and Google Pay for in-app fare payments.

The ability to buy tickets with Apple Pay and Google Pay in the Transit app is only available for transit systems that use San Francisco-based Token Transit to process mobile tickets. Using your mobile wallet means you don’t need to take out your credit card to enter in payment details.

Transit says over 65 transit systems have mobile ticketing available in their app. Transit systems that support Apple and Google Pay include numerous cities in the U.S., but no Canadian transit systems were listed. Token Transit does support Canadian transit systems.

A Transit spokesperson told iPhone in Canada Roam Transit in Banff, Alberta and Milton Transit in Milton, Ontario, now support Apple Pay and Google Pay.

The company says it is working with other mobile ticketing companies to pursue Apple and Google Pay support for their systems as well.

“Riders can already pay their fares in Transit with either cash or card. So it’s only natural we add Apple Pay and Google Pay to the mix,” said David Block-Schachter, Chief Business Officer at Transit, in a statement. “Since launch, we’ve seen an impressive number of users opt for Apple Pay and Google Pay as their preferred mode of payment in the app. It’s just the latest way we’re helping transit agencies give riders the convenient, cutting-edge experience they expect.”

“Token Transit’s integration capabilities allow riders to pay for fares in the mobile apps they already use,” added Morgan Kikuchi-Conbere, CEO at Token Transit. “Transit makes riders’ plan & pay experience even simpler by supporting Apple Pay and Google Pay. We are thrilled to offer riders a secure and efficient way to pay in Transit.”

Last fall, Transit app launched its Transit Royale subscription service, offering enhanced features unavailable to regular users.

Update: Added comment from a Transit spokesperson to note Roam Transit and Milton Transit support this new feature.
