You Can Now Add Costco’s CIBC Mastercard to Apple Pay [Update]

Costco cibc apple pay

Back in March, CIBC announced it would be launching Apple Pay support for the Costco Mastercard, which the bank now runs as part of acquiring the latter from Capital One in the fall of 2021.

CIBC said Apple Pay would be coming in “late May” but as of earlier this week, the bank started enabling the mobile wallet for iPhone users, we can confirm.

According to iPhone in Canada reader Shawn H., he was able to add his CIBC Costco Mastercard to Apple Pay today. Card verification options were available by phone call and text message. He’s a new CIBC Costco Mastercard customer and added the card to Apple Pay by scanning the back of his card.

The CIBC Costco Mastercard offers up to 3% cash back and has no annual fee, while it also combines your Costco membership card as well. The card offers additional insurance benefits such as mobile device insurance and purchase security and extended warranty insurance.

The card also supports other mobile wallets such as Google Pay and Samsung Pay. We’ve reached out to CIBC to get additional information on when other mobile wallets will be supported.

Update May 12, 2022: CIBC confirmed to iPhone in Canada that new clients can add their Costco Mastercard to Apple Pay and Google Pay mobile wallets right away. Clients transferred from Capital One will be gain mobile wallet functionality in “late May”, or the next few weeks, we’re told.

CIBC points out that when converted clients download their card it will show in their wallet as their CIBC Costco Mastercard–even if they have not yet received their new physical card yet. New CIBC Costco Mastercards are expected to arrive before August 31, 2022

Nope. “Your Issuer Does not Yet Offer Support for This Card. Learn more about currently supported cards, or ask y our issuer of they offer cards that support Apple Pay”

Is there a way to add it from the CIBC app? I used the BMO app recently for my BMO debit card after I got an error trying to add it the typical way (through the Wallet app).

from the app, go to “Setting and Security” then choose “Apple Pay Setting” and tap ON “Add to Apple Wallet” , you need to have the new CIBC card , the transferred Capitol One card is not compatible I guess until they send you the new card

I scanned the back of the card, maybe it was accidentally turned on temporarily by them…

Did you get transferred from Capital One, or did you sign up with CIBC directly and have an actual CIBC branded card?

Many of us (myself incl) haven’t been sent replacement cards yet so we are still using the Capital One physical card, its just the account number was ported over to CIBC.

Which part, the Costco, CIBC or Mastercard?

Now I have Apple Pay from CIBC Costco Mastercard as a customer that used Capital One Mastercard before and has been moved to CIBC Mastercard Costco. I think you need to wait for the new card prior to add it since the CVC code and expiration date will be different.

It works now. I was able to add it to Apple Pay and I had the option to verify via SMS. I can confirm that Google Pay works too but I didn’t see an option for SMS verification. The only one I saw was “Call the bank”.
