According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple apparently previewed its mixed-reality headset to the company’s board last week.
The details come from unnamed sources familiar with the matter, noting the development of the mixed virtual and augmented reality headset’s operating system, known as “rOS” (reality operating system), has ramped up development.
Gurman says previewing of the headset and also further development of the operating system is a sign the device could debut in the coming months.
Apple’s headset is apparently slated to be unveiled as early as the end of 2022 or early next, with a product launch in 2023. While Apple wanted to unveil the device at its upcoming developer conference, apparent issues with overheating have possibly delayed the plans.
The unnamed Apple mixed-reality device, codenamed N301, is said to include processors from the company’s Macs and high-resolution screens. Bloomberg says the high-end device could cost up to a whopping $2,000 USD, much higher than rumoured headsets coming from Meta that is said to cost over $800 USD.
Apple also has separate AR glasses being worked on, codenamed N421, slated to debut sometime this decade.
