In the latest edition of his Power On newsletter, Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman detailed what he thinks will be Apple’s next few product launches between fall 2022 and the first half of 2023.
“The company is about to embark on one of the most ambitious periods of new products in its history,” Gurman said. Apple’s upcoming launches will likely be rounded out by the debut of an entirely new product category next year with its first mixed reality headset.
Apple unveiled the second generation of Apple Silicon, dubbed M2, at WWDC 2022 earlier this month. Gurman expects a plethora of new M2 Macs from the company over the next little bit, including:
- an M2 Mac mini.
- an M2 Pro Mac mini.
- M2 Pro and M2 Max 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros.
- the M2 Ultra and M2 Extreme Mac Pro.
A recent report indicated Apple was testing M2 silicon with at least nine different Mac models. In addition to Macs, Gurman has been told the latest prototypes of Apple’s AR/VR headset are powered by M2.
The M2 chip will also find its way into new 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models later this year. On the iPad front, a new low-end iPad with the A14 chip, 5G support, and USB-C connectivity is expected as well. In addition, a new class of iPad with the largest screen yet (between 14 and 15 inches) is on the books for farther down the line.
Gurman said Apple is already working on the next lineup of Apple Silicon, M3. He expects to see the M3 chip as early as 2023 in 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models, a new iMac, and “a 12-inch laptop that’s still in early development.”
According to the Bloomberg analyst, Apple is gearing up to launch three new Apple Watch models this fall.
Apple is preparing three new variations: a new low-end SE, a standard Series 8 and a rugged edition aimed at extreme sports.
The new Apple Watch models will sport a new S8 chipset, improvements to workout tracking, and a low-power mode.
Gurman also touched on some of his expectations for Apple’s iPhone 14 lineup, expected to launch this fall. He rehashed some of his older forecasts, like the 6.7-inch “mini” model replacement and new hole punch camera and pill-shaped Face ID cutout on the front, but also restated a more recent prediction: always-on display.
According to the analyst, the addition is backed up by the new lock screen features Apple announced at WWDC.
