Cogeco Increasing Price of Internet Yet Again, Says Memo to Existing Customer

Montreal-based telecom Cogeco is set to increase internet prices again, according to a memo shared with iPhone in Canada.

One of Cogeco’s internet customers in downtown Hamilton, Ontario, said a recent note on their account indicated a price increase was coming in September 2022.

Cogeco says this customer’s gigabit internet monthly rate “will increase by $6” on September 1, 2022.

Since this Ontario customer signed up for Cogeco’s gigabit internet plan from a Black Friday 2020 promo, the original $80/month package increased to $83.50 in October 2021 and will hit $89.50 in September 2022. That’s two price increases in less than one year.

iPhone in Canada reader Brad says, “I have their 1 Gbps package, but the slower speeds aren’t really cheaper, so no way to save money. Just annoying too there is no other choices for me where I live,” indicating Bell fibre is not available, and the only choices are Cogeco or TekSavvy for fibre.

Cogeco’s memo adds, “if you have any questions, wish to add, cancel or modify any of your affected services without penalty,” to give them a call.

The company’s existing UltraFibre 1G Unlimited internet plan starts at $85/month, only if customers sign a 24-month agreement. Otherwise, the regular monthly price is $116.50 per month. Cogeco’s fine print says, “prices may change during subscription.”
